Incredible Milky Way Imagery
The above video clip (Gorgeous Milky Way Time Lapse) is worth watching for several reasons:
A) As promised, it does have some gorgeous night-time imagery of the Milky Way.
B) It drives home the point that our starfield is in motion (well ... "apparent motion," because it is the Earth slowly revolving that changes our view angle). This is much more compelling than a beautiful still picture.
C) The person who took the video allowed clouds to move in and out (sped up by the time-lapse process). The lights of a nearby city lighting the bottoms of clouds also help to put things in perspective.
D) Quick moving objects like aircraft or perhaps spacecraft streak across the scene.
E) The camera's sensitivity is such that it can show you the stars in the daytime sky as well as at night. The camera dwells on the same point in space long enough to gather enough photons from the stars to show up against the background blue of the sky. The best is the video taken in tall trees in bright sunshine with stars moving above them.
G) There is a very sophisticated artistic twist as well. The camera must have been shifted a small distance between each exposure so that it moves through objects on the ground. You would not feel as if you were really there if the scene was totally static except for the apparent movement of the starfield. Again, this is much more compelling than a video from a fixed point.
