Odysseus Lunar Lander: Part Two | The TIP OVER

Odysseus Lunar Lander: Part Two | The TIP OVER

Odysseus Did tip over on the Moon but is functioning well enough

Well, sadly, the speculation that Odysseus tipped over while landing appears to be correct.

Click this link for the latest briefing directly from Intelligent Machines.

The event was rather gentle and little  structural or functional damage was incurred (remember lunar gravity is only 1/6 of Earth’s).

The spacecraft’s final orientation is not terrible. Importantly, the spacecraft is getting enough solar radiation on its panels to operate and expect more as the Moon rotates. Most important science instruments are on the “top side.”

Communications is slow, but command signals are going up and science data is returning to Earth. It is just much slower than planed due to the random orientation of antennas.

More to follow.
