Golden Gate Bridge
Apparently my mania for this week is the history of the Golden Gate Bridge. So ... let me add another historic photograph. This one shows an artist’s rendition of the bridge that was almost built until the elegant, pure suspension bridge design won out. It would certainly have been a ugly approach to San Francisco Bay. By the way, the red color is actually the original primer paint color. The painters finished and started putting on the final coat of “battleship grey” paint that the architects called for. This aroused a firestorm of protest from citizens of the city and, thankfully, they backed off.
