More Musk: Humanoid Robot Under Development at Tesla
I watched the much buzzed-about demonstration yesterday by Elon Musk of the humanoid robot being developed at Tesla.
Keep in mind that every Tesla self-driving car is basically a four-wheeled robot that constantly senses and moves freely in the world. Tesla has taken advantage of their experience and manufacturing capabilities to construct a bi-pedal robot that also senses the world around it and moves freely in its environment. In fact, the central computer, that is the heart of Tesla automobiles, is the body of the new robot. Thus, the new robot can already move about a factory or office without blundering into things. Two versions were shown. An early prototype and the model under current development. There is no attempt, yet, to wrap them in an exterior shell or skin, so you can clearly see all the many articulation joints, motors, sensors, and connecting cables. However, that’s the point of this demonstration. Musk wants to recruit an engineering staff to develop the robot and candidates are thrilled to be able to see what is “inside.”
Check out the above: a brief synopsis of what was presented.
